Improvement to Biocube 29 stock skimmer?

I recently bought a used biocube 29. Previous owner removed the rim and the hood is out. The stock airline skimmer was really not doing much. Last night though I moved it to clip to the back edge which brought it up about an inch higher then the original position. This allowed for more air to be introduced to the skimmer and I see that it is now building some decent bubbles right under the neck but wether this helps or not is yet to be seen.

Has anyone made any mods to this skimmer with good luck. Maybe by extending the main body?. All I read here is that it's a pos but getting this thing to work properly would be nice (no extra heat added).

thanks,

Albert

I could never get my BioCube skimmer to work correctly -- finally just dumped it and replaced with a Tunze 9002 and an inTank cup for it. The BC skimmer would work 1 day and the next it was filling with water, very frustrating.

I think I'm going to get the intank cup as well for my cube too.

I am using a CPR SR3. I initially had some micro bubbles but after about 2 weeks they were gone. I am happy with the skimmers performance.
